Setting up a baby car camera for a rear-facing seat

A baby car camera only helps if it is mounted well and placed where a glance is enough. These are the steps we follow in our own cars.

The camera in this guide

Baby Car Camera 4.3-Inch

Compact 4.3-inch display, 360° camera head, automatic night vision. $29.99 · 4.6 of 5.

Mount the camera on the headrest

Loop the straps around the headrest of the seat your baby faces and tighten them until the camera can't swing. Rotate the camera head until the whole car seat — not just the face — is in frame. The 360° head makes this easy on any headrest shape.

Place the monitor low

Set the monitor on the dashboard or the lower corner of the windshield with the suction cup. It should sit beside your normal line of sight, never in it. The 4.3-inch screen is made for exactly that spot.

Route the cable and power

Tuck the video cable along the door seal or under the seat edges so little hands can't reach it, then plug the monitor into the lighter socket or USB.

Set mirror image and night vision

Switch to mirror image if you want the picture to match your rear-view mirror. Night vision needs no setting: it switches on by itself when the light drops.

Two children in the back

For two seats, mount the 7-inch model higher on the center headrest and use its 150° lens to cover the bench. Check the framing once with both children in their seats.
